PARABLES OF JESUS – Bigger and Better
Luke 12:16-18
"Then He spoke a parable to them, saying, 'The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought to himself, saying, "What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?" So he said, "I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods." ' "
He must have been an American. We have the opinion that more and bigger are better – bigger house, bigger car, more money, more power. The context of this parable is covetousness (vs. 15), and these are all symptoms of not being happy and content with what we have. We are always wanting "more." Scripture speaks directly to this issue: "Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have" (Hebrews 13:5), and "godliness with contentment is great gain" ( Timothy 6:6). "More stuff" equals more stress. Contentment brings peace to life.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: Bigger does not necessarily mean better.
Have a contented day. Love you.
