Dad's Ramblings -- Parables of Jesus -- Excuses

PARABLES OF JESUS – Excuses
Luke 14:18-20

" 'But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, "I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused!" And another said, "I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused." Still another said, "I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come." ' "

The fact is that these people did not want to come to the man's feast. So in order not to offend him, they gave flimsy excuses that anyone could see through. They were so wrapped up in their own life, they had no room for the man's invitation. We are all like that. When we don't want to do something, instead of just saying, "No, I don't want to," we make excuses. Excuses are not the same as reasons. God gives an invitation to come to His great feast, and we are often so wrapped up in our own affairs, we don't have time for Him. Flimsy excuses. Jesus said, "Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be weighed down with ... cares of this life ...." (Luke 21:34). God sees through our excuses. There are no valid reasons for rejecting His invitation – only excuses .

TODAY'S THOUGHT: Excuses for rejecting Jesus' invitation do not hold water.

Have a "Yes" day, without excuse. Love you.
