OUTSIDE

Matthew 12:46-50

“While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him …. But He answered and said to the one who told Him, ‘Who is My mother and who are My brothers?’ And He stretched out His hand toward the disciples and said, ‘Here are My mother and My brothers; for whoever does the will of the Father in heaven is My brother and sister and brother.’ ”

Why were the family of Jesus “outside?” One would think that they would be in the inner circle of His followers. The fact is that they did not believe in Him as the Messiah. He was just their kid brother. Relationship with Jesus does not happen by natural birth. I am not a Christian because I was born into a Christian family or culture. It happens by spiritual birth into God’s family. How many people who call themselves “Christian” are still standing outside? It is not until people obey the Heavenly Father and come to Jesus in faith that they are “inside.”

TODAY’S PRINCIPLE: Relationship with Jesus is by spiritual birth, not natural heritage.
