Dad's Ramblings -- Signs

PARABLES OF JESUS – Signs
Matthew 24:32-35

" 'Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see these things, know that it is near – at the doors!' "

This parable is one of several included in Jesus' response to the question His disciples asked: "What will be the sign of Your coming, and the end of the age?" (Matthew 24:3). Jesus said that there would be indicator of the fulfillment of time. There are usually warning signs before major events, whether it is a tropical storm before a hurricane, Japanese aggression before the attack on Pearl Harbor, or e-mails by a school shooter. The signs are there if people are attentive and take them seriously. Most people are missing the signs of Jesus' return because they are not looking for them, or do not take them seriously. As Believers, we see the signs. We may not be able to pinpoint the day or the hour of Jesus' return, but we know it is coming, and we can be prepared. Just as the increased seismic activity that scientists observed in the crater of Mt. St. Helens that warned of impending eruption, we can take the warnings seriously and be prepared, or we can be like Harry Truman and ignore them to our own peril.

TODAY'S THOUGHT: God is giving warning signs of Jesus' return to those who are looking.

Have an observant day. Love you.
