PARABLES OF JESUS – A Full Supply Of Oil
Matthew 25:8-9
" 'And the foolish said to the wise, "Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out." But the wise answered, "No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves." ' "
At first blush, this seems very selfish of the wise virgins who would not share their oil. Aren't we supposed to share Christ with everyone? But the fact is that the foolish had the knowledge that the bridegroom would be coming. They were just lax in their preparation. The fact is that every person is personally responsible to keep his own oil supply full. Apparently, the foolish did not really believe that the bridegroom was coming and that they would have "tomorrow" to fill their vessels. But "tomorrow" never came. I cannot make other people "buy into" the truth of Jesus' coming, nor can I make them keep the oil full. The only place to buy the oil is from Jesus Himself (see Isaiah 55:1; Revelation 3:18). The oil is free but there is a cost to me of diligence to keep my vessel filled.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: It is the personal responsibility of each believer to keep the oil in his vessel filled.
Have a full day. Love you.
