"Then He spoke to them a parable: 'Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.' "
Luke 21:29-32
A sacred cow among evangelicals is that the fig tree represents Israel's restoration as a nation in 1948. As the risk of being heretical, I wonder if we have packed more prophetic teaching about Israel into these verses and how long a generation is than is warranted. It is possible that this is merely a parable about the recognizing the signs in nature mentioned in verses 25-26. This I do know for sure:
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away" (vs. 33).
Today's Thought: God's Word will remain true even after our interpretations have passed away.
Have a trusting day. Love you.
