DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- DEALING WITH GUILT

 DEALING WITH GUILT
Genesis 42:21-22

"Then they said to one another, 'We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us.' And Reuben answered them, saying, 'Did I not speak to you, saying, "Do not sin against the boy"; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.' "

Joseph had not yet revealed his identity, and nothing had been said about how Joseph had been mistreated as a youth. Apparently, they carried guilt all these years, and something that was said brought it to the surface. Guilt over past mistakes is a hard burden to carry, and it accomplishes nothing but pain and sorrow unless it is a motivation to make restitution or change the way I live now. "Shoulda, woulda, coulda" is of no value because I can't change the past. But I can change going forward based on past mistakes.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: The only purpose and value of guilt is as a motivation to change.

Have a changing day. Love you.
