THE GIFT OF LIFE

THE GIFT OF LIFE
I Corinthians 1:10-11

"...who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift granted to us through many."

This is a rather convoluted writing of Paul. So what does it mean? I think there may be a double meaning of physical life in this world and eternal life in Heaven. Certainly Paul's physical life was in danger and God was delivering him. But in verse 9, he spoke of the "sentence of death in ourselves" (vs. 9). The "great death" we are delivered from is spiritual death. We were dead in our sins (Ephesians 2:1) but God delivered us and made us alive, so that we have the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). I am sure that many were praying for Paul before his conversion when he was persecuting the believers. Then he met Jesus on the road to Damascus and his life was changed, which brought great thanksgiving. This I know: physical death was not a big issue with Paul, because he looked forward to eternal life. He had a great desire to depart this world and be with Jesus (Philippians 1:23). We have the gift of physical life in this world, but the greater gift is eternal life. This life will pass away, but life in Heaven goes on forever.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: God gives both physical life and spiritual life, but the greater is the gift of salvation.

Have a "gift of life" day. Love you.
