PARABLES OF JESUS – God Chooses The Least
Matthew 19:30 - 20:1
"But many who are first will be last, and the last shall be first. For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard."
The lesson of this parable is that the last will be first and the first will be last (see verse 16). This is a principle that is illustrated throughout the Bible. Able was chosen over Cain; Isaac was favored over Ishmael; Jacob was younger than Esau; Joseph was the youngest of his brothers; Ephraim, the younger, was blessed by Joseph over Manasseh; Gideon was from the weakest tribe and the least in his father's house; David was the youngest and lowest rank in his family; Solomon was chosen over his older brothers. God chose Israel, not because they were large nation – they were the least – but because He loved them (Deuteronomy 7:7-8). Perhaps that is why Jesus was not born in a palace but in a stable, to illustrate God's way of doing things. Boy, do I fit this paradigm. I'm not very wise or smart, not of the elite social group, not rich, not talented, not charismatic like many others in this world. Jesus said to a bunch of nobodies, "You have not chosen me but I have chosen you and ordained you...." (John 15:16). I stand amazed that God would choose to set His love upon me – the least of all in this world – and call me to work in His vineyard. What a wonder!!!!
TODAY'S THOUGHT: God causes the least to be the most favored.
Have a "least/most" day. Love you.
