PARABLES OF JESUS – Forgiven
Matthew 8:23-25, 27
"Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. And...one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But he was not able to pay .... Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt."
The focus of this parable is forgiveness (vss. 21-22). The debt the servant owed was humongous.
According to the marginal reading, in today's money the debt would be 3 billion 840 million dollars. How in the world did the debt get so huge? I think it was a little at a time. Here a little, there a little. It's kind of like charging to the credit card. It happens so slowly – a day at a time – that the debtor does not even realize it until the account comes due at the end of the billing cycle. Each individual charge doesn't seem like such a big deal, but it accumulates and the interest compounds until it so large that the charger cannot pay the debt. The only answer is forgiveness by the lender. The chorus goes, "He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay, I needed someone to wash my sins away." My debt of sin was large and growing every day. I'm so glad that He had compassion and forgave me of the debt I owed.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: The only answer to the debt we owe is forgiveness.
Have a "forgiven" day. Love you.
