THE HIGH CALLING OF PREACHING
I Corinthians 14:1, 5
"Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.... I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the church many receive edification."
There is nothing wrong with desiring to be used of God in spiritual gifts – miracles, faith, healings, tongues and interpretation. But the greatest calling is prophecy. It is to be esteemed above the rest. To be able to declare the Word of God for the building up of God's people is indeed a great honor. I don't know if the story is true, but I heard of a famous preacher who was encouraged to run for president of the United States. He declined because he felt being president would be a demotion. Preaching is indeed a high and holy calling to be desired.
Today's Thought: The greatest calling is to proclaim God's Word.
Have a "desiring" day. Love you.
