Dad's Ramblings -- Old and New

JESUS' PARABLES – Old And New
Matthew 13:52-53

"Jesus said to them, 'Have you understood all these things?' They said to Him, 'Yes, Lord.' Then He said to them, 'Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.'

Jesus taught old principles with freshness, like a homeowner who changed the decor of his house by going into the attic and bringing out new items every once in a while just to keep thing fresh. I remember a professor of world history in college who would stand before the class every day and read his notes. He was probably 70 years old (old???) and had used the same note to teach from for 50 years. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!! Variety is the spice of life. A church is like that. It needs old members for stability and new members for vitality. John understood this principle when he wrote, "unto you fathers ... unto you young men ... unto you little children" (I John 2:13-14). I need the old for stability but I need the new for freshness. I never want my Christian life to become stagnant and boring, but alive and fresh every day as I learn new insights that help me to know God's Word and the Savior better.

TODAY'S THOUGHT: "Old" is necessary for stability, but "New" is important for freshness.

Have an new old day. Love you.
