THE WORKING OF GOD
Colossians 2:12
"...buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."
I confess that I don't understand all about the mystery of baptism. I know that it is a symbol of identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. When the believer goes down into the water, he confesses that Christ died for sin, and when he comes up out of the water, he is raised with Him to new life. But somehow it is more than a ritual or human activity. Mysteriously God is at work in that ordinance and something spiritual happens. This all happens through faith in Christ. In another place, Paul said that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us and gives life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). In it all, the believer dies to sin because Jesus died for sin, and lives because Jesus lives. What a wonderful mystery.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: In baptism, we identify by faith with Christ's death for sin and resurrection to new life.
Have a living day. Love you.
