"People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving. Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; he may have to give up all the substance in his house."
Proverbs 6:30-31
Feeling sorry for a criminal does not negate justice. Just because I feel compassion does not mean that he is not accountable for his crime. Unfortunately, many times in trial, the jury is swayed by the pleas of the defense attorney that appeal to the emotions ("he was abused as a child," or "he is poor," or "he has some kind of syndrome") rather than the facts. Compassion and mercy are important, but they do not nullify justice. When I stand in the courtroom of Heaven before the Judge of the Universe, He will not be swayed by any appeals to His great compassion and mercy. Judgment will be based on one thing: Have I believed that Jesus took the punishment for my sin. "Just the facts, Ma'am, just the facts."
Today's Thought: Compassion and mercy do not diminish justice.
Have a just day. Love you.
