DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- AUTHORITY

 AUTHORITY
Matthew 7:28-29

"And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."

There was a difference between Jesus' teaching and the scribes, and the people recognized it. The scribes based their teachings on the ideas of the famous rabbis who wrote their own understanding of religious thought. I can just hear the scribes drone on and on about the rules and regulations of the Jewish religion. I've heard preachers like that. Jesus, on the other hand, received His authority from the Father (see John 5:27). He spoke with passion and conviction the words from God. Everyone bases  their beliefs on some kind of authority. The question is, "Who or what is my authority?" For many people, it is what someone else said, or their personal ideas, which are always changing like the previous parable of the foolish man who built his life on the sand (vss. 26-27). I do not trust myself as my own authority. That is why I use God's Word as the authority for Dad's Ramblings. It alone is a solid foundation. My ideas are worth nothing if not based on God's authority.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: God's Word is the only solid foundation for authority.

Have a "God's authority" day. Love you.
