YES IS YES AND NO IS NO
Matthew 5:33-37
" 'Again, you have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord." But I say unto you, do not swear at all, neither by heaven...nor by earth...nor by Jerusalem...nor by your head. But let your "Yes" be "Yes," and your "No" be No." For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.' "
This swearing has nothing to do with profanity. It is averring my truthfulness by appealing to some outside source to support what I say. If I have developed a reputation of integrity by the way I live, then my word is sufficient bond. I will consistently do what I say, and people can depend on it. If I don't have that kind of reputation, swearing on a stack of Bibles will not engender trust by people around me that what I say is true. And I need to beware of the word, "Maybe." It is too often an attempt to avoid being pinned down. Let my "Yes" be "Yes" and my "No" be "No."
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: The person who has developed a reputation for truthfulness does not need anything but his word for a bond.

Have a "Yes" day. Love you.
