PARABLES OF JESUS – The Christian Walk
Luke 14:28, 31
" 'For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? .... Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?' "
The context that brackets this illustration is bearing the cross (vs. 27) and forsaking everything to follow Jesus (vs. 33). Jesus knew nothing of "easy-believism." Instead, He promised His disciples pain, and suffering, and denial, and persecution. The danger of making the Christian walk sound like sugar and spice and everything nice, and neglecting the promise of the hard stuff, is that it leads to disillusionment, and forsaking Christ. Jesus never offered a bed of roses in this life, and neither should we. He only promised His presence and His peace.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: There is a cost to follow Jesus that needs to be considered if one would endure to the end.
Have a "following" day. Love you.
