DUTY OR COMPASSION?
Matthew 9:35-36
"Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd."
Jesus had a job to do – to be a Shepherd. The job description was teaching, preaching, and healing the poor sheep. But His motivation was not just fulfilling a duty or obligation. He was "moved with compassion." Duty and obligation are good and powerful motivators, but they will not cause a person to die for someone else. Jesus got His heart of compassion from His Father. God so loved that He gave (John 3:16). "We do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with out weaknesses" (Hebrews 4:15). A double negative means we do have a compassionate Savior and we can come boldly to His throne of grace in our time of need (vs. 16). I want to have His heart. As the old song says, "Give me a heart like thine."
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: Jesus did not minister out of duty or obligation but from a heart of compassion.

Have a "Jesus-heart" day. Love you.
