VOICES
Matthew 7:16b-18
" 'Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.' "
God has given me the responsibility to make proper discernment of where I look for truth. If I want grapes, I go to a vineyard. Even though there may be thistles and thornbushes in the field, I still look for grapes on the grape vine. There are so many voices (prophets and preachers), how can I tell which voice to listen to? I will choose to go to a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church where God's Word is the authority. I will look to see if the preacher faithfully interprets the Bible correctly, or if he preaches his own ideas. I will be sensitive to whether the preacher walks what he preaches with integrity. I will be aware of whether he is building his own kingdom or God's kingdom. I don't expect to find truth from worldly and ungodly voices, no matter how suavely they present their message. I will look for the fruit, for " 'by their fruit you will know them' " (vs. 20).
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: Truth is found by looking in the right place.
