INTENTIONAL SEEKING
Matthew 7:7-8, 11
" 'Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened .... If you, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!' "
This is not a blanket promise that God will give me everything I ask for. Even an earthly father does not give his child everything he wants. A father will give his child good things he needs. The parallel account of this teaching identifies the "good things" as the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). Jesus is talking about spiritual things – God things. He is probably referring to the words of Moses who said, "You will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul" (Deuteronomy 4:29). The best thing a person could ask for is the presence of God. Nothing else compares to this treasure. I want Him to fill my life. That requires intentionally seeking God.
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: God will give His Spirit to those who intentionally seek Him.
