DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- RESPECT

 RESPECT
Matthew 7:12

" 'Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.' "

This is the law of life – treat other people as I want to be treated. It is a variation of the Law of the Harvest: I reap what I sow. But it begs the question: "How do I want to be treated?" There are many answers to this question, but it seems to me that the primary thing people desire is to be respected. Our world is filled with disrespect, whether in the school with teachers, in the home with parents or spouse, in the community with the police, or in the nation with the president. I don't expect that everyone will agree with me, but I don't like being put down or treated like an idiot. Here's the kicker: If I want others to respect me, I need to respect them, even if I don't think they are doing the right thing. They may be doing dumb or unwise things, but they are still humans made in the image of God and, as such, are worthy of respect. Lord Jesus, help me to remember to respect people even when we disagree.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: How I treat others is the way I will be treated in return.

Have a "respectful" day. Love you.
