DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- BOASTING

 BOASTING
II Corinthians 11:10-11

"As the truth of Christ is in me, no one shall stop me from this boasting in the region of Achaia. Why? Because I do not love you? God knows!"

This section of this epistle (II Corinthians 11:10-12:11) seems peculiar. The word that ties it all together is the word "boast" or "boasting" ("glory" or "glorying" in the King James), which occurs 14 times in this passage. Paul has just written, "He who glories, let him glory in the Lord" (10:17). Yet now he proceeds to boast. Yet, as I read this passage, it is apparent that he is not boasting in his status and position as an apostle but in the his sufferings (beatings and stonings, imprisonment, deprivation, and dangers – vss. 23-27), his weaknesses and infirmities, and God's grace that brought him through (12:9). I guess I could boast in the sacrifices that I have made as a minister of the gospel. But if I have anything to glory in, it is the faithfulness of God through the times of trial and tribulation, and even my own weaknesses and failures. "God forbid that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 6:14).

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: The sacrifices and trials of life are opportunities to glory in the grace of God that
brings us through.

Have a "boasting" day. Love you.
