DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- AUTHORITY

 AUTHORITY
II Corinthians 10:7a-9

"Do you look at things according to outward appearances? .... For even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord gave us for edification and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed – lest I seem to terrify you by letters."

The purpose of God-given authority – whether pastor, parent, police, politician, or boss – is to edify other people, and not to destroy them. Sadly, many people use their positions of authority to go on power trips to advance their own ambitions, and scare people into submission. They misuse their authority to become tyrants and despots, putting other people down instead of building them up. Here is the test of a proper use of authority: Are people helped and encouraged? Or are they used and cast aside? Is the power of authority used for the good of others or the benefit of oneself? God gives authority, not to terrify people but to bless them.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: Any use of authority which does not edify other people is a misuse of authority.

Have a blessed day. Love you.
