DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- GODLY SORROW

GODLY SORROW
II Corinthians 7:8-10

"For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it....Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."

When sin is identified, there are two possible responses. I can either be sorry that I was caught and try to and cover my sin with excuses and rationalizations; or I can be sorry that I violated God's standard of holiness, confess it and repent. One produces death and the other life. One produces bondage, and the other freedom. One produces regret, the other cleansing. The Corinthians responded in a godly way with diligence, indignation, fear, zeal, and strong desire that cleared their conscience (vs. 11). That is what godly sorrow produces.

TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: Godly sorrow for sin leads to repentance and cleansing.

Have a godly day. Love you.
