DAD'S RAMBLINGS -- Philadelphia Love

DAD'S RAMBLINGS – Philadelphia Love
Romans 12:10

"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another."

Most often in Scripture we are called to love with agape love – the God-kind of love that gives without expecting anything in return (as in I Corinthians 13). But here, Paul urges us to love people with affection – tenderly cherishing one another, with phileo or human brotherly love. In some ways philadelphia love is more difficult to express than agape love because we have so many conflicting differences when we rub shoulder with people all the time. It seems like sometimes we can agape people without liking them very much. Paul shows what phildelphia love looks like. We tenderly cherish other people by honoring them with deference to them without demanding our own way. That goes against my fleshly desire to be right, but it is the way to develop affectionate relationships. People respond to this kind of love.

TODAY'S THOUGHT: Affectionate relationships develop as we honor people by giving preference to one another.

Have an affectionate day.
