VALUING PEOPLE
I Peter 2:17
"Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king."
This verse is a challenge for me. I get the love of the brotherhood and the fear of God. But "honor all people and honor the king?" That is difficult. The Greek word translated "honor" is timao, and means to esteem or place value on something. (Sidenote: the name Timothy is a combination of time and theos – honoring God or honored by God.) I find it hard to esteem and value some people, like the indigent people who sponge off of others, or ungodly politicians. I don't need to esteem everything they do, but I have to understand that they have value as people whom God loves. Lord Jesus, help me to see people as You see them, as people You value and love.
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: We are called to value all people as God values them.
[end]
Have an honoring day. Love you.
