MERRY CHRISTMAS
How often I hear this phrase, especially at Christmas time. It is usually about doing a kind deed – giving to the poor, helping a neighbor, or a touching story about a family which was reunited after a long separation. We often think of Christmas as a celebration of family gatherings, shopping, giving gifts, fudge, snow and sleigh bells, and seasonal music. And often the ending line is, "That's what it's all about."
These are all good but they are not what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is about God coming down to earth in the form of a baby, born in a manger to a couple of newlyweds. It is about the birth of a child that would grow up to die on a rugged cross in great pain and suffering to be the Savior of mankind. It is about an act of love that brought humans into relationship with the God of the Universe.
So when you hear the tag-line, "That's what it's all about," remember Paul Harvey's famous saying, "Now for the rest of the story."
Have a Wonderful Christmas
