THE BATTLE
Colossians 2:1
"For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh...."
This is another evidence of Paul's love for the Church – even for those he had not met. He had "great conflict" for them. This word "conflict" translates the Greek word "agon" and is related to the word "agonizomai" – agony (see Dad's Ramblings for 9/29/12). "Agon" is the word used for the athletic contests of ancient Greece that often resulted in the death of the vanquished opponent. Hence, it is a struggle or battle – not a picnic in the park. Paul cared so deeply for believers that he did spiritual battle for them. What a contrast to my life. My spiritual battles are usually for myself, rather than for someone else. Rather, I find myself condemning, judging, and criticizing other believers rather than fighting for them. This is truly convicting. Lord, help me!
TODAY'S THOUGHT: Our conflict should be for other believers, not against them.
Have a "battle" day. Love you.
