"Now there was also a dispute among them as to which of them should be considered the greatest."
Luke 22:24
One minute, each disciple is asking which among them would commit the horrible betrayal of the Master (vs. 23). The next minute they are trying to determine rank. Each of them (except Judas) must have concluded that he could never do such a thing, and thus was more noble, more honorable, more faithful, more deserving of respect than all the others. It is a dangerous thing to think I am a better Christian than anyone else because I have followed longer, sacrificed more, prayed harder, lived holier, attended church more faithfully, or been in a leadership position. Remember the admonition: "He who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall" (I Cor. 10:12). It is better to simply love and serve the Lord Jesus, and let Him determine my reward.
Today's Thought: One-upmanship has no place in Jesus' kingdom.
Have a humble day. Love you.
