THE TENDER PROPHET
II Kings 8:11-12a
"Then [Elisha] set his countenance in a stare until [Hazael] was ashamed; and the man of God wept. And Hazael said, 'Why is my lord weeping?' And he answered, 'Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel.....' "
The king of Syria was sick, so he sent Hazael to Elisha to inquire whether he would recover from his sickness. Elisha prophesied that the king would get better but that he would certainly die. Elisha also foresaw that Hazael would become king and that he would do evil to Israel. And Elisha wept. The Lord Jesus also demonstrated a tender spirit. He suffered rejection, but He wept over Jerusalem because he knew the devastation that the city and the people would suffer (Luke 19:41-44). When I speak of hell, or the judgment facing America, or a hard word to a loved one, my message needs to be bathed in tears lest I become harsh and strident in my own spirit.
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: Speaking harsh truth requires a tender spirit.

Have a tender day. And have a good Memorial Day. Love you.
