DAD'S RAMBLINGS – Deferred Dreams
Romans 15:22-25, 28, 32
"For this reason [missionary work] I also have been hindered from coming to you. But now no longer having a place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come to you, whenever I journey to Spain, I shall come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey .... But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints .... Therefore, when I have performed this and have sealed to them this fruit, I shall go by way of you to Spain ... that I may come to you with joy by the will of God, and may be refreshed together with you."
Paul had a great desire to go to Rome and then on to Spain, but there were other things he needed to do first. As I come to the New Year, I think of the things I would like to do in 2014. As good as it is to have goals and dreams for the future, they can't keep me from doing what I need to do right now where God has placed me. Daydreaming may be a part of life, but reality is where I live, and there are pressing needs I have to attend to. I can't live in some hazy vision for the future; I have to live in the now. As far as I know, Paul never did make it to Spain, but he did get to Rome by a different route than he had planned – as a prisoner. God's plans are different than my plans, and my job is to yield to His plans. My goals must always defer to the "will of God."
TODAY'S THOUGHT: Life is not lived in the dreams of the future; it is lived today, a day at a time.
Have a "today" day. Love you.
