DAD'S RAMBLINGS – "Why?"
Jonah 1:10
"Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, 'Why have you done this?' For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them."
This is a penetrating question – "Why?" Why do God's people do things that they know violate God's expressed desire? Why does the preacher commit adultery? Why do Christians violate godly ethical standards and lie and cheat and swindle others? James gives the answer: we are enticed by our own desires, and when we give in to them, we sin (James 1:14-15). Jonah wanted to do what he wanted to do more than he wanted to please God. When the desire to please myself is greater than my desire to please God, I am drawn into sin. Lord Jesus, place in me a desire to please You that is greater than satisfying my own lusts.
TODAY'S THOUGHT: Simply put, sin is doing what I want rather than what God wants.
Have a "God-pleasing" day. Love you.
