THE BLESSING
Genesis 48:1, 8-9
"Now it came to pass after these things that Joseph was told, 'Indeed your father is sick'; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. .... Then Israel saw Joseph's sons, and said, 'Who are these?' And Joseph said to his father, 'They are my sons, whom God has given me in this place.' And he said, 'Please bring them to me, and I will bless them.' "
Jacob, as Israel, was continuing the tradition of his father, Isaac, who had blessed both him and Esau. So when Joseph brought his sons to their dying grandfather, Israel laid his hands on them and blessed them (vs. 14). "Laying on of hands" is an act of faith. One of the basic doctrines listed in Hebrews is the "laying on of hands" (Hebrews 6:1-2). Also, Timothy had received his ordination to ministry by Paul though laying on of hands (II Timothy 1:6). Spiritual power is transferred in that simple act of faith. I believe that there is spiritual significance in the act of a parent or grandparent blessing his offspring. There may not seem to be any outward evidence of that blessing, but I still believe something happens in the spirit. That is why I took my children to both their grandfather Glaser and grandfather Schiewek for a blessing. They may not remember these blessings, but I believe there was a spiritual transmission that is still shaping and impacting their lives, and those blessings will have eternal results. O gracious God of Heaven and Earth, I beseech you to bless my children and my grandchildren.
TODAY'S PRINCIPLE: The blessing of "laying on of hands" is a spiritual event that has eternal significance.

Have a blessed day. Love you.
