Dad's Ramblings -- Lightening the Load

LIGHTENING THE LOAD
Jonah 1:5a

"Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load."

Sin does not just affect the person who does it. It also contaminates the surrounding people. "None of us lives to himself and no one dies to himself" (Romans 14:7). The storms that are a result of my disobedience rage on others and cause distress, even if they are not aware of my rebellion. As my fellow mariners endure my tempest, they suffer the loss of their own things as they try to "lighten the load." My life does affect those around me – whether family, friends, co-workers, or society as a whole. I truly regret the misery and loss I have caused others by my unchristlike attitudes and actions.

TODAY'S THOUGHT: We do not live to ourselves alone, and what we do brings either joy or pain to
those around us.

Have a "lightened" day. Love you.
