"And He said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called "benefactors." But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.' "
Luke 22:25-26
It seems a trait of human nature is to control. Even those who seem meek and mild are often manipulators to get people to do what they want. Some biblical scholars think the conflict can be seen in Adam and Eve's relationship, when God said, "Your desire shall be for (toward) your husband, and he shall rule over you" (Gen. 3:16). Adam would rule, but Eve would desire to control – the neck that turns the head. God's kingdom calls us to a different paradigm – service. No one likes to feel like he is being "used." The antidote is to be looking for opportunities to serve in order to help another person be successful.
Today's Thought: Human desire is to rule; God's way is service.
